Default 96 Civic woes

I was driving it today and it just quit running. I have fuel, the fuel pump is working but after that I am not sure where to start looking. When it stopped there were not any warning lights or anything like that came on. I figure it is ether not getting any spark but how would I check that? I would think that if it was a spark plug it would have just started running rough, would the distributor have caused this all of a sudden?

Common reasons for this:
- Bad ignition switch. Pull the hand brake handle up and watch that the BRAKE light on the dash stays on both with the key on and while cranking. Also check that the check engine light comes on when you turn the key on but don't crank, and goes out after 2 seconds.
- Stripped timing belt. Take the oil cap off and watch for the rockers to go up and down when you crank.
- Blown coil. Pull one spark plug wire out and put a spare plug in the end. Hold the plug against the engine and watch if the plug sparks when you crank.
- Distributor rotor screw fell out. Remove cap and inspect.
