Totally Lost
ok i'm new to the forum work so please help me out. anyway, i have a '97 Civic DX SOCH with 199,000 miles Stock nothing special. a couple of weeks back i was crusing down the highway at about 70 and when i hit the accelerator to pass someone the motor bogged down, no power. i down shifted to 4th and it did just fine and sped right up. when i went to upshift to 5th the oil light came on and the car died. i pulled over and when i started it, it has this terrible knocking noise but its not consistant sometimes its there sometimes its not. i called the stealership and they said its probably that the oil pump went out but that seems unlikely. vie also had the thought that i might have spun a bearing. any ideas please help.
The stealership could be right. You can check your oil pressure with an oil pressure tester from your local auto parts store. Look in your manual to see what the specifications are, its not hard to test.
You could have run out of oil. Pull the dipstick out and see if there is any oil. Sometimes this happens because the guy who changed your oil (hopefully not you) doesn't put the filter or the pan plug on properly, and a leak develops. Or an old engine can start using oil, and it is possible to run out between oil changes if you never check or add any.
Anyway it sounds like the engine is ruined now. It is usually more practical to swap in a used engine than to try and fix the one you have.
