Tranny Problems

Hey I have a 98 civic with a transmission that started with a hesitation from 2nd to 3rd(RPM's 3,000 to 3,500 with car itself not accelerating). Now it has progressed to every shift between gears. Not all the time though. Sometimes it shifts smooth every gear. Cold weather helps with smooth shifts. I read in another forum about tranny overheating so I took the car our early(5:00 am) and shifts were smooth until the engine/tranny warmed up to operating temps. It also just started getting this weird feeling as if the emergency brake is being applied when I let off the gas pedal. I did one drain and fill so I could check my solenoids for build up on screens. All was good there. Fluid level good. Not burnt. A very small amount of metal pieces stuck to drain plug. I know I need to do I believe 4 drain and fills. Could these problems possibly be a torque converter issue? If so do I need special tools to check TC or should I just drain and fill three more times and hopethats the problem?
Thanks in advance
Matt B.
