Transaxle seal
When replacing a transaxle seal on the left side of a 99 Honda civic vtec 1.6. Is there anything special need to do to make sure it does not leak
|
First, make sure you have the correct part. The two seals are the same size but they are sensitive to the direction of rotation of the shaft, so different parts are used left vs. right. There will be an arrow on the seal showing which way the axle should rotate with the car moving forward.
When installing any seal you need to press it in evenly only on the very outside edge. Pressing in the center will bend it and it is ruined. Check the sealing surface on the CV joint shaft. If damaged, replace it. Apply oil or grease to the lips of the seal before installing the shaft. |
Ok the part numbers are the same for both sides at Oriely , so put a lil grease around it to put it in there

I have had it put in before and the bottom keeps popping out

It has to go straight in. Find a round object that is slightly smaller than the OD of the seal so when you tap on your installer, its pushing on the outside edge all the way around.

Ok thank you
