transmission uh oh

my 1999 honda civic automatic transmission failed. 2 minutes after leaving the house my car lost power through the transmission. headlights/cluster gauges were flashing, reading wrong. Now when i put it into any gear its a very rough shift with a loud knock. i replaced the tranny fluid to no avail.
any help would be much appreciated.

hmm....not alot of experience with auto trans. but with my experiences, alot of chain transmission shops (i.e. mr. transmission, aamco transmission) will look at it tell you what it is and usually for free. could possibly be TCM?? was fluid in trans black or burned or have any chunks of metal in it when you changed it? in my opinion it sounds like a good excuse to swap for 5spd lol.

It could be an engine problem or an electrical problem. The headlights and gauges don't have anything to do with the transmission.

Do not take your car first to a "transmission specialist" they will tell you All Automatics Must Come Out. It's generally a rip-off. Have a general mechanic check the car first and confirm the transmission itself is faulty not some other problem.

forgot to mention it wont go anywhere in any gear, the engine just revs. ive scoured the net for this problem and have found many with it, but no awnsers to the problem. i went out and bought a obd and got 2 torque converter solenoid electrical problems hits. i havnt rang the wires out yet but i think my car is ****ed. all connections are clean and tight. i think the torque converters are gone which im pretty sure ruins the entire transmission. honda automatic transmissions are terrible.garbage from what ive read. theres a 99 civic for sale in my area thats been rolled with a 5 speed and engine cheap cheap.180,000km
i am by no means a mechanic dont have the tools and dont intend to try it. i need this car badly for work asap.
5 speed conversion sounds expensive even with parts. i can budget $1000 on this tops not including parts. im not thinking its possible. my car is in incredible shape for the year it would be such a waste to sell off in its current state. would a shop even look at a job like that? other option is buying a used auto tranny with 100k km $800, then get that installed and have it burn up 2 months later.

swap the engine. not all auto trannys suck to bad. mainly just the d series. with your budget i'd do a zc or ls swap. i have a dude right down the road that'll do the swap for 150. just get the motor trans mounts and ecu. http://www.japangeneralmotor.com/ind...hc-engine.html

invest in the 5 speed swap though.

hope you get it back on the road.
