Default Triple Gauge Pod

Does anyone know how difficult it is to install a gauge pod on a 95 civic coupe dx? i just ordered a setup today hoping it wont be too difficult. the gauges are oil pressure, volts, and vacuum.

mechanical or electrical gauges? The install shouldn't be hard if you're half decent with wiring... but hiding all the wiring is going to be a pain... you'll probably have a rat's nest of wires hidden somewhere lol

Well I know the voltmeter would be electrical; they only come in electrical.

As for the vacuum and oil pressure gauges, if they come with vacuum hose (the vacuum gauge, obviously) and oil lines (oil gauge) they're mechanical. If they come with a sensor/sending unit and lots of wire, they're electrical.

One really isn't harder to install than the other, but finding a place to run an oil line and vacuum line through the firewall might be a PITA (depending on how large/flexible the line is). The wires are easy enough; there's quite a few pre-existing holes with plugs in them in the firewall; pull the plug out, cut a small hole, run wires through it, and use the plug as a grommet.

Be careful with the mechanical gauges. You essentially going to have oil lines running to your oil PSI gauge to measure the pressure. If that line ruptures, you could have oil shooting all over the cabin of your car. I don't know if it happens that often, but it could.

If the tubing for the vacuum hose is pinched anywhere, or develops a hole some how, the reading will be off. Good luck with the install!

the gauge pod is really easy to install, most come with screws and then little black caps to go over the heads of the screws so it doesn't look so bad. With mine i just ran all the wires down the gauge pod and then drilled a small hole in the side of my dash and ran the wires through. Yea, its a little rats nest, but if you can run a ground and 12v/ignition wire up htere, the only wires you'll need to run are those two and then the 3 (or however many) signal wires for the three gauges. Most gauges come with the black ring thing that makes mounting hte gauges themselves on the pod really easily. I got my gauge pod off ebay and it fit fine and i couldn't be happier with it.

Yeah, glow shift gauges are definitely nice; I have two friends that have/had glowshifts (one still does, the other took them out to sell the car. I don't know if he put them in his 240sx or not), and they're definitely good gauges.
