Unusual oil consumption? Honda 95 Civic DX
previous owner didn't change the oil probably? I've always been extremely good to my cars maintenance-wise, so I've never really run into any oil consumption before, at any mileage... Seems very early, it was my first Honda, so I wonder.
OK, first things first, dont use synthetic if you have an oil consumption/leak problem. It is thinner than dino oil, and therefore will blow-by rings and leak faster. as for your problem, it sounds like your rings are shot. previous owner must have abused the hell out of it, or just didnt change the oil. my stock motor didnt start using much oil till about 130k, and thats still early for a Honda. and I beat the crap out of that thing. nitrous, auto-x, drag racing, long bouts of spirited driving, pretty much as abusive as you can get on a street car. and im sure I went over on a few oil changes, and i knew i was going to be getting a B-series swap sooner or later, so i always used the cheapest oil I could find. now, I assume you dont know a whole lot, and have many specialized tools? if you can, get a compression and a leakdown test done to see the overall shape of the motor. that will tell you a lot. then let us know how that went, and we'll go from there. but remember, its a Honda, so once you fix the problem, It should be a great car for many more miles.
i know my civic is a 92 with the stock motor in it and i turbocharged mine almost 2 months ago with around 180k on it and i think in the close to 2 months i have had the turbo on it i have burned about 1/8th of a quart of royal purple full synthetic oil (10w-30)....the whole time
yeah, youre (andre) going through way too much, its not normal. B-series are known for using a bit of oil, and i go through about 1-1.5 qts per oil change. and thats 8k since i use synthetic.
You can go to Oriellys or Autozone and buy a compression tester. All you do is pull one plug and screw the compression tester into plug hole. Pull the Coil wire off the distributor cap, so car wont start. Have someone crank the motor so you can watch gauge to see what your compression is. Then go to the next cylinder. Post your results back here. My 97 DX has 110K and uses NO OIL......
i have a 93 with a swap in it im guessing that has about 80k on it... i know for a fact my oil pan gasket is leaking spitting right on the down pipe.. it just comes out the underside of my car.. check ur car when u stop.. if theres smoke rolling from ur tail pipe its internal engine seals if its comming from the external of the pipe..or around the engine.. might wanna look in to a new oil pan gasket.. i have plans on doing mine here while i have to have the front end off..maybe even getting a new header to make sure i can get this one off and put the new one on
