Valve Job?

Got a 2001 Civic ex auto. last spring I changed the Oil and noticed the level was very low. ever since then the car burns oil and needs a quart ever 2 or 3 weeks. I can see the blueish/gray smoke coming out the back when it starts up and drives. I can smell it also. The car also makes a clicking sound like it's one of the lifters, which has been getting increasingly loud for the past year and a half (before it started burning oil even). The valves have been adjusted accordingly and the issues still persist.

I have always changed the oil regularly since I've got it in 07. Can anyone point me in the direction of what the issue could be? We were going to try a valve job next to rule that out, but could it also be piston rings?

help!

thanks

how many miles are on the car? and have you done a leak down test?
you may have bad valve seals and/or bad piston rings. also have you changed the pcv valve, its a 2$ part and is very easy to change out, pcv= positive crank ventilation
it allows your motor to breathe.

Change the PCV valve for sure, but smoke that gets worse and keeps going when you floor it is usually the rings. Most people replace the whole engine at that point.

Took the pcv valve out and cleaned it, its working fine but worth a replacement. Have not done a wet/dry compression test yet. Looks like it's rings or valves then. We have 2 mechanics in the family (one being a certified Honda Mechanic), so we will probably end up doing the work ourselves.

only 100,000 miles on the car!

Thanks!

my car was doing the same thing so I had all the lifters adjusted and it was gone after that. the mechanic told me one of the lifters was loose and another wasnt the right one for my motor.
