vibrating gear stick
when im in 3rd and put my foot down you can feel slight vibration through the gear stick, it doesnt happen all the time and if you push the gear stick forward while in gear the vibration goes away.
all the other gears are ok with shifting and there is no sounds just a slight vibration any ideas cheers |
RE: vibrating gear stick
Mine did that for a while. I just it fix itself and after 3 months it went away.

RE: vibrating gear stick
its probably just the vibrations from the engine coming back through the shift linkage.
|
RE: vibrating gear stick
yeah, the engine vibrations come back through the linkage. This happens especially after you've entered a higher gear and are cruising at a lower RPM then give it gas in a higher gear from low RPM's because the engine has lower and more intense vibrations this way. It's perfectly normal.

RE: vibrating gear stick
thanks for the reply guys
mine is the latest shape civic with the stick on the dashboard and sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesnt and the weired thing is if i leave it in 3rd and rev hard, the higher the revs the less it vibrates, it doesnt happen in any other gear which is strange. thought it could be a bearing or something, but if you guys think it is ok should be ok. It feels more of a gear box cog vibration than an engine one the car is a year old and has 7000 miles on it any more thoughts on this subject guys? |
RE: vibrating gear stick
I think you'll be just fine. It still has warranty on it right? Even if it doesn't, I was driving the Porche today and it kinda has weird stick feelings too, don't worry too much about it, it's normal.

RE: vibrating gear stick
thanks once again guys
prob just me being paranoid thinking it is a 3rd gear bearing that is failing or something but if that was the case, why does the vibration go away with the more revs you put on and at 6000 in third it feel like a normal gear has anyone got a diagram of the gearbox and linkage of the latest civic ? cheers |
RE: vibrating gear stick
its probably nothing to worry about. everything has a different resonance, it vibrates at a different sound/vibration level. your shifter is probably just in that level in the lower revs of 3rd gear. as long as it isnt getting worse, id not worry about it and just figure its normal.
