Unless it's a JDM D15B, it's probably non-vtec.

95civic00 06-06-2012 03:07 PM

Thanks, how do I find out if it is JDM D15B?

WellFedHobo 06-06-2012 03:27 PM

There is a plate on the front of the engine to the left of the exhaust manifold that will say the engine code.

Great Thanks!!

The stock 1.5 in a 95 was non-VTEC. 92-95 EX's had a 1.6 liter. You can spot the non-VTEC D15B2 / D15B7 instantly because they have the spark plug holes on the intake side of the valve cover, toward the back of the car. If the spark plug holes are on the exhaust side, toward the front of the car, the head is possibly VTEC. In that case, look for a VTEC solenoid on the back of the head near cylinder 4.

The number on the block doesn't tell the whole story because the SOHC heads interchange readily, so someone could have swapped on a head that didn't originally come with your block. The VTEC system is all built into the head. The block just sets the cc displacement.

Awesome! Its not a VT now ive gathered from that information. No big deal... I just want to figure out why it shifts at extremely high RPMs and no one seem to know...

zerojett 06-07-2012 03:48 PM

it's a honda. power its made through rpm and torque. torque is made primarily with displacement. honda made up for the lack of displacement with a high redline.

The automatic is designed to shift at higher rpms when you have the gas pedal floored, and lower if you (try to) accelerate without flooring it.
