Default VTEC Hesitation

I have a stock 2006 Civic Si, six speed manual, w/the VTEC. On cold starts, including after sitting a while even in warm weather, the engine hesitates or "chugs" when I start to drive. It's like the choke is on (for those that remenberolder cars when you had a manual choke) or the choke is stuck. It runs ok after a little while. It's been this way since I bought it 8,000 miles ago. I always use premium and oil/filter is changed according to Honda mtce schedule. A Honda mechanic said this is normal for the VTEC, utiil engine temp and oil pressure get up. Is this correct? Thanks for any insight! (Otherwise LOVE the car; it's a pleasure to drive fast.)

That seems really odd. I didnt think the VTEC engaged until 4500 RPM? I dont know about the newer engines but it seems odd that the VTEC would cause your problem. I havent ever heard of this problem so your mechanic was wrong I think.

there were some problems with the drive by wire throttle, you might check for TSBs on it and see if it can get fixed
