Vtec solenoid blocked off.....???

Alrighty, i bought a 1995 civic dx d15b and i noticed the vtec solenoid was blocked off with a plate on the head and the 2 plugs that would go to it are just hanging there. im pretty sure the engine has been rebuilt before. ANY ideas why the hell someone would block off the vtect solenoid? i want to buy a new solenoid but im not sure if there was some important reason it was removed... HELP

ok see these pics? thats what my car SHOULD look like. There is just a block off plate bolted on right there and the plugs are dangling

they bolted a plate in place???

it shouldn't hurt to just add back what was removed... you'll never know unless you try?

I think Ej1 was asking for a picture of your current motor with the plate blocked off. Most all of us know what the solenoid looks like. I actually might have one from my D16 sitting in my garage if you are interested. I would have to find it though.

Well I was looking closer at my block off plate, and the picture I posted was from a d16 with a 3 bolt solenoid. I have a d15b2. I will post pictures of mine tonight. I only has 2 bolts and no place place for a third.... Is this the 3 stage or 2 stage vtec I've heard about? I'm confused.

d15b2 is a non vtec engine, if I recall. Its almost like someone put a different head on it, but then blocked off the vtec solenoid place so it wouldn't throw a CEL.

Post pictures of your setup. Find out what the code on your computer is. (Pull the plastic kick panel on the passenger side under the dash and look for the sticker on the side. It'll have some numbers, then something like P06 or P28. If you have a "mini me" set up (d15b2 with a z6 head), we might be able to walk you through getting a vtec computer, wiring up vtec, getting a solenoid, and making the engine more fun, heh.

got some pics here, and the ECU numbers! yeah! 37820-P06-A02-740-803436. The number on the head is PM3-9 which registers for 1 d15b2 i believe....

you should by a vtec solenoid that goes with that block cause you have the connections for it

Ej 1 CiViC 07-03-2011 02:23 AM

yeah cause you have the connections and the ecu is a p06 and it is for a vtec
