Water or coolant

Default Water or coolant

I have recently bought a 1997 civic 1.5 vtec.

there is clear liquid in the coolant reservoir. Is there such a thing as clear coolant or has someone put water in it ???#

never seen clear coolant--yet-- just add a little coolant to the water ---just check & make sure u coolant in the engine ---always pop the cap off when its COLD--

I've never seen clear coolant before either. It sounds like the seller may have just topped the reservoir up with water. Check the level in the rad (as AOL said), in case it's low, or has had the same thing done to it. Actually, if you can afford it, the best thing to do would be to get your cooling system flushed and a new thermostat in it. A lot of people neglect their cooling system and let it go a lot longer than they should (usually until something happens).

Prob just water, it should ideally be mixed 50/50 water and coolant but some people are cheap and use all water. You car will actually run slightly cooler with only water in it .

Yeah, when ya'll say "coolant" I assume you mean "anti-freeze" right? If you want to check the level before you flush and refill, they have these little testers that you suck up some of your coolant into and little floating ***** will tell you the ratio of anti-freeze to water.
