Default water in engine?

so my friends wife and i went to take him dry uniforms last night and managed to forge the first lil bit.. but when we were a block from her house got the car stuck in knee high water.. yeah i know its dangerous blah blah... it was standing water.. basically in our housing area theres a flow down to a low spot and it created a lake... neither of us realized how deep it was..

anyway.. heres my question...

her car died.. what all would her hubby and i have to do to get it to go again... im for sure that theres at least some water in the engine.. we let it sit overnight in a dry area and still nothing today... im thinking that theres mainly waterin the intake... but who knows...

its a 2002 grand am.. 4 cyl...

any ideas...

and did anyone else get alot of rain?

well first thing would be drain the oil and transmision fluid as well and replace.... pull air filter and make sure its dried out or just replace it....

but theres so much that can keep it from runing..... distributor cap, bad coil pack. blablabla.... ALOT that can go wrong.

i myself had to drive thru ALOT OF RAIN the other day!!!!! i could hear the water rushing under my cars floorboard... i was JUST ABOUT ready to turn around and call in to work..... I WAS VERY CLOSE.LOL luckely at the end of my driveway was the worst place due to the dam corn field run off.... i know it could be worse! people across the road in a subdivision well they couldnt leave the complex unless they had a large truck.LOL happens every good rain.

luckely i didnt have any problems BUT IM DEFINATLY swaping my cold air intake to a shortram intake. luckely i had a extra air intake so now im busy modifying it alittle to look cleaner. almost done... now i just need to paint it.
i got really scared of hydro locking the motor so im definatly changing it up now!

you may want to pull the plugs out & crank the car over for a little bit , to push any water in the cylinders or intake out

A car that got stuck in flood water is probably going to be a total loss. Did she have "full" insurance on it?

The main issue with flood water is the electrical system. Need to disconnect the battery right away and dry everything out before re-connecting it. Also of course get the water out of the crankcase and the transmission. Problem is that flood water has lots of fine grit (i.e. mud) in it that will destroy mechanical parts.

o ya if you can unplug the electrical conectors ive heard that if ya spray WD40 into both side of the conectors and then plug them back together which should force the water out..

Congrats.

How did the transmission fluid look?

Did the ECU, fuse boxes, or distributor get wet?

Any of the dash lights staying ON?
