What do these do??
Can someone explain to me what the tandem valve does?? Also what is the dashpot diaphragm used for???
I have a 1988 civic 1.5L |
RE: What do these do??
ummmm i have never heard of those before...lol...what are you trying to do??

RE: What do these do??
Well, I have been having a idle problem and this weekend I was going to pull my IACV and clean it....Looking at the throttle body I see all this different connections going to the different sensors. I am just trying to educate myself on what each does....
Here is a picture of throttle body area and most of the related sensors: http://autozone.com/images/cds/gif/l...3d8014183c.gif Hopefully it will open correctly..it is from the autozone web page..but they don't explain what the Tandem valve and dashpot valve do?? or at least I can't find the explainations.. |
RE: What do these do??
Something else I forgot to mention...my temp gauge jumps all over the place...very fast so I don't think it is reading correctly..yesterday (it sometimes say it is HOT seconds after I start the engine in the morning), I decided to unplug it to see if it is a shorted wire or the temp sensor itself...the outcome has been the gauge always reads cold now (as expected) but the engine idle problem has stopped?? Would bad unstable readings from the temp sensor back to the ECU cause an idle problem? I am going to pick up a new sensor this weekend, I figured the only thing happening now is I am using more gas then normal being the ECU thinks the engine is still cold.

RE: What do these do??
hmmm the dx manifold which is the one you have. It has all the same sensors has a SI or many other muti port intake maifold. the only diffrence is the the dx has 2 injectors in it. they both have a tps "throttle postioning sensor. iacv, air intake temp....ect
has for cleaning your iavc ya being a 88 it probaley the one that came on the car, so spray some cleaner in there. becarefull not to loose the little rubber gasket in there, or the screen ok. as for the jumpy temp needle, well it could be a couple things. iacv air bubble in your coolent system leakey head gasket.has itever been changed?? how many miles you got on the motor. |
RE: What do these do??
the odometer say 227K but when I pick up the car last month I was told it has a new engine about 50K ago, but I have no idea if the dealer knew 50K for certain or if he was just blowing smoke.
Any idea on why the idle would stablize with the temp sensor disconnected?? |
RE: What do these do??
that is weird, be cause it a sensor, it might be bad, and the ecu is trying to compisate for it??????worth a shot replacing it. have your checked your coolent fluid, or the oil, does it look like milky??
|
RE: What do these do??
I changed the oil about 3 weeks ago and it looks fine....
as far as the coolant, It was fine until last week, I was looking at some things, and forgot to lock down my radiator cap, so after drive for about 10mile I started to smell antifreeze and found the cap was not locked down...:(:(:( I shut her down until I could get some water in the system. Today I looked and yes, the radiator was low, so I filled it, but need to keep an eye on it to see if it keeps going down. One thing to note...the temp gauge doesn't just raise and low...it jumps all over. There is no way the temp could be jumping that much that fast, which is why I am leaning towards the sensor is the problem. I did ohm the sensor out, when everything was cold, it was reading 1.4Kohms...which seems way high, but I didn't get a chance to do it with the motor at temp.... |
RE: What do these do??
f you have a leakt head gasket it will jump around like a mexican jumping bean sorry to say that. but ya start with the temp sensor first.
running it low on anitfrezze might not have been a good idea could have warped the head a tad bit??? |
