what kind of oil and how much??
hi,
new civic owner here...bought a used 1998 Honda Civic EX 4 door from a private seller. he didnt have the manual on him so i would like to know what weight oil do i use (i.e., 5W30, 10W30, etc) and how many quarts? also, what kind of gas does the manual call for? regular, premium?? Any help would be appreciated. thanks! |
RE: what kind of oil and how much??
5W-30 oil (3.5-4 quarts depending on engine) and regular 87 octane gas is recommended by Honda.

3.25 Quarts if you use a redesigned Honda Filter. I just bought a 99 Civic EX and 3.5 quarts was too much using the filters you get from the dealership. Also if your going with the Honda filter put in 3 quarts and then run it for a minute, let the oil settle and then top is off incrementally. Don't over fill it.
I always recommend Honda filters, they're $6. I trust a Honda filter way more then I would ever trust a ****ty Fram filter. I use 5W-30 Fully Synthetic Mobil 1. 87 Octane is the recommended gasoline as mentioned above. |

You can order a new owner's manual from a dealer, I think it is quite cheap.

Don't pay for a manual. Click here and then click the download button on the left. Evey manual for every model Civic, free.
