grinding problem after hitting a fallen sign on the freeway

I was driving my car home from my gfs house when I hit a sign that had fallen in the middle of the freeway. After I got my car towed home I replaced the right front tire because it was very fd' up. I got the spare on. It started up and the engine seems to be ok. When I shifted into first there was like a boom. Then I drove it a couple times up and down my street with hardly any problems. But when I slowed down and pulled into the driveway the there was like a grinding when I had it in first gear. It felt like one of my tires was grinding against the fender or something. But I know thats not the case. So,...I think its the transmission or clutch or both. Maybe it got knocked too hard from the accident. Its not leaking any oil, I think it maybe leaking transmission fluid though. Anywho, Ill have to ask my dad to pay for it. If anyone has any helpful hints or suggestions Id greatly appreciate it. I just got this car like six months ago and I love it. Damn.

dont give up on the tranny just yet..its probably still ok to drive for now, how bad is the first gear? is it all the time or just when you shift into gear?

welcome to the forum!

It seems to come and go. Like if im going slow in first itll grind a little then go away and then comeback again. When I was driving it up and down the street, second gear didnt accelerate as fast as it should have for a bit then it went to normal speed. As far as that "boom" like when you shift and it kind of drops when you step on the gas...I dont know how to explain it. But when it does it now it feels like its dropping harder. It only did that in first gear though.

RE: grinding problem after hitting a fallen sign on the freeway

Well,...I got the claim forms today from CalTrans and I might just buy a new used car. The damage combined with the outside of the car combined with the damage with the engine, whatever is wrong with it, would well more than the car is worth. Im sorry to say that about my own car especially after I ownly had it for six months. But on a brighter note the money I should be getting I think will be more than enough to go out and buy another honda similar or even better than one I wrecked. But Ill definetely buy a civic, or teg or something. I really want another civic though. I thought Id just include a lil picture of my valve cover I painted just to make it look a little nicer. I know my car wasnt the best out there but it was mine. Ill miss you car :(...
