Default Hey everyone

Hey guys! I'm glad I found a Honda Civic community, cause I need lots of help. lol

I bought my first car, a 1997 Civic Si. 5 speed standard, black, 1.6L L4.

It's in pretty bad shape, but hopefully I'll have it looking nice by the time I get my license in May of next year.

I have an interest in cars and computers. I hope to learn a lot about my Civic, and how engines work and how to fix them when needed. I have my father for help.

Be sure to check my pictures in my profile.

Welcome to the site! Car doesn't look too bad; looks like all it needs is that duct tape body work fixed, and a REAL good cleaning! I like your headrests, too! Looks nice though, how much did you pay for it? Any mechanical problems we can help you with?

EDIT: And I would re-do that wiring mess you got under your driver's floormat; it doesn't look safe at all. I'm sure you don't want to take the chance on your new car catching on fire!

It only cost me $700
It runs perfect too. Something about a throw-out bearing is the only noticeable problem, besides that it's a really quiet ride. (when we manage to find some carpet)

Yeah we plan to sort of rewire the thing.

We just bought an alternator belt to replace the one that fell off from the previous owners.

Not many mechanical problems, all is good except for the parts for the interior and exterior, then we can get it inspected and licensed!

It would help if we had an aftermarket website to go to, in Canada of course.

My suggestion man.... take out all seats and the center console and take a good brush to that carpet and vacuum the ufck out of it... That back seat is a pain in the *** but you just have to force than sumbich back than forward again really fast and hard haha

And... Previous owners wiring almost always sucks ***** lol...

Good suggestions NIKE. I will do that. This car doesn't have carpet so I have to look for some.

@ Justin13: I had the same idea. I was told the 1997 Civic Si came with a 1.6L Vtec engine. This one is just a 1.6L L4. Not the Vtec.

If its the canadian SI than it is still Vtec...

Its a 1.6L SOHC Vtec D16y8
The SIR engine is the 1.6L DOHC Vtec B16

If your alternator belt snapped, I would immediately replace your timing belt! But that's a steal of a price you got it for!

But doesn't the Vtec engine say Vtec on the cover? We got none of that on ours.

I will ask my father about the timing belt and get him to show me how it's done, thanks jwmm04.

No, it doesn't say vtec on the cover. If it is really an Si, and didn't have an engine swap, it is vtec.

Edit: I am sure someone has a picture of the vtec wiring hookup spot. Also, side note, What is up with the tails that have the amber in the upper left corner?
