Just bought my first Honda
Hi,
I just bought my first Honda from my brother in law. Its a 95 4 door automatic but is (according to him) in need of a transmission replacement. He said that he was going home from work the other day and put his foot on the gas and the RPM's went up just like it was in neutral and the car wouldn't go. I bought this car to have a third car in the family, have myself a little toy, my oldest son will be driving in a couple of years and my wife will be driving about 80 miles round trip 3 days a week next year for school. I will be stopping in probably on a daily basis until I get this transmission thing figured out. Until then does anyone have any suggestions for me on where to start with my own transmission diagnosis until I get the paperwork from his repair shop? Also does anyone have a copy of a 1995 civic Factory Service Manual that they might be able to send me via gmail or even zip it up and I can open it at work? Thanks a lot and will be looking forward to learning a lot from all of you.

welcome....... as far as your transmission woes first thing id check is the ATF. not only the level but the condition of the fluid. you may htink this is weird but if you taste the ATF you can actually taste to see if the clutches are burned some. theres also a possibility the transmission isnt downshifting but hell theres so many things that can go wrong. good luck with the diagnosis.
