Default n00b looking for old parts

hey guys. i'm a teen from west valley city, utah, who recently acquired my great grandmother's bright orange '76 honda civic. only problem is it doesn't run because of a clog in the gas tank. i joined in hopes of being able to find a solution to my problem. according to all the tests we've managed to run, it runs fine other than that and a new set of tires. so a faulty gas tank is all that stands between me and returning this classic to it's former glory.

Welcome! I'm a newbie here as well, so I can't exactly help you with what you're looking for.

What area in West Valley City? South/West? I used to live down there before I moved to Riverton, so I was just wonderin.

I go to school in good ol Rexburg but my twin goes to school in Provo. I say go to one of those "U-pull it" places or a junk yard and find the part... it would be waaay cheap (like 80% less than finding a classic piece) and it should install easy.

the problem is, a junkyard car's tank would probably have the same problem, not to mention rust damage, etc. and how many '76 hondas do you think are still around? even in junkyards or pick-n-pull? this particular one was surprisingly well-maintained.

Well I still do see alot of elderly civics around portland and when we have the idea of junk yard we only see an image from an episode of Junkyard Wars on TLC... Those u-pull places are actually very decent and just because your civic has a bad tank doesnt mean all have the same problem... most people junk their cars because they dont have time to help them, not because they cannot drive. I can find PLENTY of interior parts like seats, dome lights, trunk springs for my civic as well as stuff for my VW, Audi and Benz... ALot of times people break the weirdest stuff off that a dealership knows is crappy so they charge terrible prices on it. Junk yards are more of a "Checker semi-used auto parts" than a "big pile of heaped up cars on stacks"... those places are different.

i don't see to many elderly civic's round here... on record, i've only seen one. but i think it sounds like i should look more deeply into some of those places. that'd save me a ton of money. here's a picture of us taking out the gas tank. not the best photo of the car, but it's about all i have right now
