new member / Service problems
Hello y'all
Newbie here.
I've got a 2001 Civic LX 4dr, Abt 147,000km on it. I've got some questions/concerns...
Here's my story - it needed a new battery, so I went to CanTire and replaced it myself, no big deal. I think it needs a new alternator as well.
Anyway, the dash is lit up like Christmas, and we're in the New Year now so I'd like it to stop. Everything's flashing. Kinda like leaving the Christmas lights on your house all year long! -ok take them down already! Anyway, I found the 5digit code to get the radio working again, so it seems fine, although it blinks intermittently.
Took it to the dealer yesterday, they did a scan, and said I need an Alternator. $341.45 + 82.95 Labour=424.3 +taxes / SRS light apparently suggests a new front Seat belt buckle(???), $255.43 + 47.99 for Scan + 66.36 Labour =$369.78 +taxes / Engine knock sensor + labour $174.43 plus taxes
---grand total of $ 968.51 ....oh, PLUS taxes!
Here's the thing -I feel the flashing SRS light is just a ploy to get me into the dealership.
The belt buckle is fine. Either it works or it doesn't! Doesn't need replacing. Pffff!
I'll go with the Alternator, OK with that.
Engine knock sensor? Don't know enough about that to comment.
Oh, and I was told it'll need a new timing belt @ 165,000km. (Now at 147k)
Is there not some way to reset the system after changing the battery/alternator so I don't get all the flashing lights? Other than changing the battery, and having to do the Alternator, the car was running great!
I'm no mechanic or anything, but I do like to tinker here and there.
Any additional comments/suggestions with regards to the above would be very much appreciated.
I don't want to spend over $1,000.00 if all I need is a new alternator, which I can probably get for alot less than what I was quoted.
HELP?

RE: new member / Service problems
well replace the alt but the rest sound like bull**** to me.......your buckle either works or it doesnt and the engine knock sensor......pump some premium and clean the fuel injectors then give he a PM back.
