Default New "old" Honda Owner

I just bought a 96 Honda Civic 2 door Hatchback DX with 5 spd. It has 110000 miles and is in fair shape for 14 years old. I don't know the maintenance history but it appears to need struts (makes a lot of racket up front going over small bumps at slow speed) - is this a dangerous thing or just annoying? I don't know about the timing belt or tuneup - runs good but sometimes has a small and irregular miss. All stock what gas mileage can I expect just driving around town? The motor seems to need some rpm's to do the job - not much horsepower I imagine. Any things I need to be aware of or lookout for? Any help appreciated!
Thanks

also new here but i would do a timing belt and water pump. i would also look to see if stock plug wires, if so get a tune up (plugs & wires) aftermarket (good) wires i found are pretty cheap as well as everything else for these cars if you are mechanically inclined. if not i am sure you can find someone that will do a good job for a fair price.
