So it won't let me post in the suspension section yet but I'm here because I bought my first car, a 1993 Honda Civic LX. Being a dumb teenager I bought it quickly because it looked cool but now am having quite a few problems with it. It has 18" TSW custom painted rims on it and I'm trying to figure out simple ways of Keeping them from scraping when I go over bumps and turn at higher speeds. Any suggestions? I don't want to hear about getting different wheels because the main goal is to keep the wheels. Thanks for the help!!

 

18s are huge for a Honda, is your car lowered? I don't really understand why your wheels would be scrapping unless they are rubbing?

 

He must think it sounds like scraping since it is probably rubbing the fender.

18's are way too big for the 88-00 Civics. 18" looks right on the newer Civics though. The stock size is 14". Going to 18" will definitely be a tight fit.

OP, either raise the car up, or get smaller wheels to correct the rubbing issue. You can try and roll your fenders, too. It might help depending on where the wheels are actually rubbing.

 

Yes I suppose I mean rubbing when I say scraping, the rubber is hitting the fender, both in the front and back, I know part of the problem is the front suspension is shot and needs to be replaced, once it's replaced it may stop the rubbing in the front but not the back.

As said before I would really prefer to keep the wheels, how would I go about raising the car? The other suggestion I heard was getting lower profile tires, right now they are 245/40/18 and some one said the going down to 35 would give me about an inch more of space, do you think that would help enough or be a good idea?

 

Is your car lowered, or is stock suspension installed?

 

I don't believe it's lowered, stock suspension in the front and the struts in the rear look newer but I'm pretty sure they are standard suspension and not anything that would lower it

 

So you are rubbing on stock suspension? Nothing you can really do except get smaller wheels at this point, or smaller tires.
