most of the time, dealers are wary of lending out their tools, especially proprietary tools.

but i've read on some boards that if you ask NICELY, that some dealers may let you borrow the tool.

this is the one I need:

http://www.amazon.com/Alltrade-64879...466030-5316154

there's another one that also fits honda engines. it may be the one that the D-series engine requires.

as for the belt tensioner. I'm getting mine from online probably from http://www.prostreetonline.com/

you'll have to look up your own belt tensioner model since you have a civic and i have a teg.

the part costs $30 or $40 but is important to replace when changing out your belt. you'll also need a tensioner spring. it's about $5.

you may think that's a lot of extra money, but if you're going to change out your belt, you might as well as do it right the first time.

honda engines are interference engines, which means the valves come crashing down into the piston heads if your belt breaks. that's why it's vital to properly maintain your timing belt.

you know i've heard that, and then when i did my head gasket, i was talking to a pro import shop, and he and the machine shop that did my head( i had it off, i figured might as well have the whole thing worked over) they both told me that the d16y8 was NOT and interference configuration.. allbeit that they are really close, but so long as you dont drop a valve spring, the valves couldnt reach the pistons....
