Hello All!

I have a 2001 Honda Civic Ex with 84k on it. The other night my tranny went. My father who is a mechanic called me this morning & told me it's going to cost about $1800 to fix my car. He didn't really sound to enthused to fix it either.

Unfortunately the place I bought it from ripped me the #### off and I still owe about $8,000 on the damn thing.

Now I have no car. Should I try and talk my dad into fixing my car or should I suck it up and trade it in? What would you guys do if money were a little tight?

Some advice would be really appreciated.

 

Well I tend to steer people to this website for parts ( What tranny you have in there?, I will look it up for you when I get some time at work) www.car-parts.com , I found my tranny there for a LOT less than I thought I was going to have to pay ( my mechanic said he could get one for about 800-900 used, Honda told me a LOT more, but they were going new Anyhow, I spent roughly $165 I think it was. and have had it in for about 4 months now.. not a single problem. Either look it up there, or give me the specifics and I will post a link to the results.
Either way.. good luck.. and I would keep the car, IF you can find a good priced tranny

I think it depends on how much you like this car - if it were up to me, I would definitly go shopping around for a new tranny... Getting your dad to give you some money will be a lot easier if the price is a lot cheaper - I would think!
