What kind of civic to buy?

Ha. Some of you guys are awful.
Okay! So we're probably buying a 6th Gen Civic EX.
If we were able to get a car with 50-70k miles on it, how reliable would it be with a turbo?
As in, reliable for driving back and forth between Kansas and Texas?
Also, turboing a 130HP engine with a stage1 kit wouldn't exactly make it blazing fast, how much would a tranny swap cost? Surely not more than a turbo setup?
I'm thinking maybe a 2000 SI w/ I/H/E and a tranny swap? Wouldn't that put it about at the same HP with quite a bit more reliability?
And every time I've been at the track with someone that had a civic they've always had a chip to mess with. Is a chip worth buying? How much would it help?

Well, I drive a 15.0 99 GS Eclipse so as long as I run quicker than her everything is great.
I've wanted to tool around with a honda and she does want something quick and fun, so it all works out.
