Default 97 EX daily driver

Can i boost my Y8 daily driver (auto tranny) sedan and still have a reliable daily driver?
I live in an area where highways are nowhere to be found. is it necessary? can i do a modest boost
and get 160-200 max HP?

i'm sorry for being a newb.
I'm used to Chevy V8's

that tranny may not hold up well under prolonged boost. what is ur budget? going turbo is a big step in terms of money to do it right. if ur asking if boosting it is necessary it sounds like u might have some reservations so think it through. i think u could achieve those numbers but it will have to be a nice setup (parts and tuning) to keep it reliable. just my $.02 good luck!

you can keep your car reliable, just have a good setup and keep the psi down.

+1 forty, pete has been running strong for a year

The one thing that autos are great for is boosted drag racing. There major drawback is the increased turbo lag from the preload from the torque converter, and the more built the tranny is (IE tighter the torque converter) the more the lag.

BUT... auto cars build the boost and then they keep it, so in a quarter mile they are subsantially quicker than a boosted manual car because the manual car keeps loosing boost and has to respool.

Just like my truck, I raced an auto truck that had almost the EXACT same setup as me, and he beat me by a full second on the quarter mile. I had 6 gears to row through (ok, well I started in 2nd).

is there any way i could tune it myself without a dyno and a tune shop, cuz there are no shops that specialize in anything like that here in labrador. what would i be looking into if i decided to do this myself? Also, what setup should i get to reduce lag? i don't intend on building over 200HP so i don't need a big turbo or a lot of boost.

Koots,

Keep us posted on what you end up doing. I have the exact same car as you and would love to have a little more power.
