Boosting a stock D16Z6?
I wanna boost my bone stock Z6 at 8psi but its got 256,000 kms on it. You think that the high kms on the engine will push a failure? Should I not bother?

RE: Boosting a stock D16Z6?
Use the search bro..
Compression and leakdown tests are required for higher mileage motors. Get those done, and go from there. Or if you have a second mode of transportation, and don't give a **** about the motor in there, just boost it. If it blows it blows right? z6's are like $300 :D |
RE: Boosting a stock D16Z6?
do the compression test, 10% between the 4 cylinders. if youve got that then boost away. andits a honda, you can run it for a million miles if you want if you take care of her. and like forty said, if she blows, drop a $300 z6 in it. someone you know has to have a spare car for a week
apparently i just learned that torque kills engines, so go with a big turbo that puts out lots of hp with not so lots of torque. if anything goes wrong its probably gonna be a snapped connecting rod. has the car been pounded on its whole life or been treated nicely. that makes a difference too, my buddies celica gsr through a rod and his motor is basically stock with only 90k on it,just cuz he beats the piss out of his car. |
RE: Boosting a stock D16Z6?
Ill run a comp check tonight.
The car has been driven nicely untill I got it a week ago, I drive her hard but have only got up to VTEC maybe 3 times, I shift at 4k rpm every time cause im scared of the high kms on it. I was thinking of getting a T25 for now while its a stock plant. But Im collecting parts to build up the engine, ARP's, Valves and springs, Gaksets, Pistons and rods, rings/bearings, hone, clearance checks and then Ill upgrade the turbo to a GT28RS. Of course ill upgrade the fuel system also, and maybe new axles and an LSD. |
RE: Boosting a stock D16Z6?
Cars are like people. A Person can die at 60 years old from being an alcoholic and a chain smoker. A person can live to be 90. it's all about how you treat your car. My brothers old cavvy pretty much crapped out at 150kms. get yourself a compression test and whatnot, and see if your cars eligable. i think it would be better to get another block, and build it up. FOr 300 you can't go wrong, and you can get one with alot less kms.

RE: Boosting a stock D16Z6?
True, but the only way Id do that is if I find surface warpage. However, it would be nice to add things to a block on a stand and not have to stress about doing the whole project over a weekend, so we'll see.

RE: Boosting a stock D16Z6?
Sov had a D16y8, and he kept it in his car and built a D16z6, it gave him enough time to do all the work, so you should look into it. But yea, You can't exactly expect things to all work out in a weekend, cause it could take weeks, if something doesn't exactly go as planned.
