Default Boosting a VX... enlighten me

so what would your guys opinions be on boosting a vx with a T3/T4 to

A.) get better fuel mileage at cruising speeds
B.) to have kick when you need it, because god knows your not going to get it with the 92 hp Vtec-E
C.) to say that i have a turbo and did it all myself

what do you guys think?

Well since your going to have to buy 91 octane then having higher mpg realy isn't going to help any.

exactly what i'm saying pete...

i like the idea of getting experience with turbos
not running anything crazy,

i'll take the premium because the car gets 50, 56 anyway...

so even if i abuse the hell out of it, what... i'll get like 30?

anyway, my point is that i'm gaining: experience, mileage on the highway, bragging rights, and the ability to downshift and actually pass someone on the highway if i need to, which not a lot of vx's/cx's can say...

Youll get far worse gas mileage than you think when you are being led foot. Turbos eat fuel while heavy spooling. Youd be getting more like 16/18 to the gallon. Also, if you get 50/56 Id like to see how you somehow achieve that. You are getting upper 30's low 40's at the most. With a turbo just cruising on the highway you will see the mpg Pete was getting.

Yea when you car is under boost the fuel mileage is horrible. The only time you mileage will go up is when you are cruising....youll want to slowly accelerate too, because once the turbo hits boost the mileage is severly effected.

pete's epa rated at 36 highway and he gets 45

the vx is rated 56 highway and it would get.... 45?

do the math, if it's rated at 56 and you're ramming air in it without spooling/wasting gas

how would this not equal at least 60?

i know everyone says they're not going to drive like a maniac before they get their turbo or any upgrade
and i know that i will, but it's not like i'm driving around hitting it hard everytime, i was talking about an average tank, if i'm cruising down a 4 lane street at 40-45 miles an hour, without the turbo i'd be getting about 50, much less with the turbo and at barely 2,000 rpms

my average tanks will be pretty damn high

A Greddy Kit spools early, he's talking a T3T4 which is quite a bit bigger. My cruising fuel mileage has gone up quite a bit since I turbocharged the car.

I'd love to see a boosted VX/CX, but see here's the problem.

They are able to get such great fuel mileage by running as lean as possible (16:1!!!), long gearing, and using very small injectors.

Boosting is going to force you to run 12:1 or lower, with much larger injectors. Not to mention the simple fact that, well... let's face it, the VX/CX just isn't built for power. The rods might as well be metal toothpicks, you would easily destroy them with more than 175whp (which is really really easy to do with such a huge turbo, 7psi netted me 210 lol).

Honestly, if you want to go boost you're going to need a different platform. Boost and gas mileage just isn't going to coincide, I get ~30-35 cruising but it's not often that I cruise through a whole tank.

Just my usual $.02
