I need opinions between a B and D
Over the winter I'm hoping to get a FI project underway. My hp goal is roughly 300whp. I know thats a lot for a civic but I figure I may as well go big since I've been planning this for over 3 years. My question is would a built d16z6 or a stock b16a2 suit my needs better? I always thought the d would be cheaper but after I totaled up all the parts I would need the d is more expensive. The b will have new rings and bearings as well as the basic tune up (pumps and belts) whereas the d will more than likely be a carbon copy of the one in Sov's car. Either will have an obx lsd. I've searched and searched over every website I can find but I just want some opinions from anyone that actually has anything to say regarding the reliability of either set-up and anything else they want to throw in. If you have anything negative to say, keep it to yourself. Thanks in advance for any info
Would the extra torque from the LS outweigh the top-end advantage of the b16? I know built engineis going to be better than a stock one regardless, but the hp goals I'm setting arent astronmical so I'd like to stay away from building an engine if at all possible. If I have to order an engine I was going to get one from Hmotorsonline and the LS swap there is only $50 less than the b16 before shipping. I've checked every salvage yard within 100 miles of where I live and the hondas are pretty slim pickings. I'd prefer to just buy one from somebody but hmotors is my plan b. A d16z6 averages $500 plus shipping (from what I see, correct me if I'm wrong..and yes I know that some people pretty much give them away after they swap but I am the only honda enthusiast where I live.), then rods, vitaras, cam, springs, clutch, misc crap and the added downtime of swapping my tranny onto the new motor. With the B i can just order a few parts from advance and get a clutch and have the motor rebult in a weekend or two. I can have everything bolted together before I start to pull everything apart. Remember when sov had that unexpected issue with his tranny not bolting up? I dont just need a vtec motor, but honestly...its a honda, and as immature as it sounds I would like to have one just to say I have it.
The b16 is going to be more expensive, but it IS a better motor than a D16Z6. Not by much, but the fact that is has 2 cams allows it to breath better....its a slightly better motor, but for the $, id just go with a D.
oh, ok. I'm still shopping around and getting my financial situiation in order at this point. Does anyone know of a reputable place to get a motor in the south east?
i would go with the built z6 over the b16. if i had to do it over again i would get a z6 and build it up and boost it. for the money i have put in my car i could have a 300 whp car right now and not a 250 maxed out b16 car. b16 stock blocks can hold up to 8-10 psi but dont go much more than that because you will blow it up.
