Exclamation New member seeking buying advice

Hello everyone! I am an engineering student at the University of Maryland and I like tinkering with cars and motorcycles. For the last few years I have been looking into building a race vehicle but I have been mostly prohibited for cost reasons from doing so. From what I gather, a Honda Civic is a great, reliable, and low cost vehicle for this choice. I am in the market for a low cost base from which to build upon. In terms of power output, I would like to live with a 0-60 timing of at most 6-7.0 seconds. My question to all the forced induction guys that have loads of experience building these power plants is which vehicle would serve as a good place to start. It seems that the ancient CRX are essentially being let go for free where I live and appeal to me very much. Some of the pre '96 cars are also in my price range. I usually look at the Washington DC craigslist.

I would like to hear your opinions, tips, and suggestions as well as any constructive criticism and something or someone to point me in the right direction. I am new and willing to learn.

I have already read the FAQs and stickies but those are more detail oriented than where I am right now -- which is totally lost. For the more experienced guys around here this should almost be a no-brainer.

Thank you very much for your patience and I hope to hear from you all!

I am seeking a Maryland MVA registrable track car and not a daily driver. Thanks.

What do I look for in these 92-95 civics? Which engines take the most boost stock from these years so I can move on to after market pistons, etc. later on but still be able to scrape up some psi without blowing a stock motor?
