Thanks for the clarification Trent. I thought there might be an issue with the stock D17. The dislike of the engine is really related to the relative low performance you get after modding it.

Eh, depends. Most people will say B series.

It's all subjective. It depends on your goals and your budget.

D series = easier to work on, cheaper parts, easier to find parts, less expensive, car usually already has it (meaning you don't have to swap one in), cheap to turbo, can make decent power

B series = slightly harder to work on, more expensive parts, parts are sometimes easy to find and sometimes hard to find, more expensive, usually requires swapping, capable of more power than the D series (in general).


Not all B series are the same and not all D series are the same. You have to take that into account. There is a big difference between a B18C (ITR) engine and a B16. Also, there is a big difference between a D16Z6 and a D15B8, for example.

go to wiki and look up d series motors than look up b series
