pre-boost build?

pre-boost build?
I'm deadset on turbocharging my 06 si in the future, and I'm wondering what if anything I should look into ungrading first in my engine? Its my dd so I want to be sure I don't run it into the ground quickly after boosting it - or really at all. So should I be looking at engine internals first or will the stock k20 pretty much hold its own? I'm new to all of this, just trying to learn everything first.

RE: pre-boost build?
it depends on how much boost you want to run/how much horsepower you are looking for. from what i'vereadaboutthe new si's motor ithas beefy stock internalsand should be able to handle 7-10 psi with a good tune without affecting reliability.

i live in california, so whatever boost that will be legal probably wont be overly powerful. it seems like too much work to take it all out and re-tune it for smog. ive also been wondering, generally how does psi relate to added hp? anyone know?
thanks for the reply

ive read that you shouldnt measure the boost by psi, but im just tryin to figure out how much hp i can shoot for with a decent turbo. maybe ill go for like 50hp, who knows? this is down the road for me, im broke.
i know theres no limit on how much boost, but im guessing smaller less powerful turbochargers will give me less emissions. stupid california laws.

well...you got lucky with the k20 because hondata has K-Pro...if it would have been a different engine, you would have had to violate emissions laws by converting back to ODB1 to have a tuneable ECU. 50 hp is kinda sad, i make that on my stock d16 with over 150,000 miles on it..lol do you mean 500? if so then your going to be looking at internals. Im not sure who makes what for the K series engines...but there are tons out there, so you will have to do you own research, unless these guys know of some places to look. Check the web..you can find anything on it.

haha, yeah that is pretty sad, im actually thinking more like 100+whp. its kinda sparse looking for tuning help with the new SI's. the only part ive been worrying about is being able to get a good (fairly legal) tune. it doesnt seem like hondata offers k-pro for the 06 yet, but i can wait. luckily im not wanting to do this right now, so ill have more options when the time comes.
thanks for all the input you guys have given me, any comments good or bad have really helped.
