I went to a place called speedsouth today and was talking with the front desk guy about some forced induction possibilities for my 94 civic dx. I first asked about a greddy turbo kit, he said they dont even mess with those because they take too long to install.

So i asked him his opinion on what to do, with which he replied 'get a pro charger kit'. Red flag goes up in my head (why the hell would i want a supercharger instead of a turbo.) He went on to tell me that they could get a kit for my car for roughly $3500. Additionally its a '20 hour job'.... ($1700) install.

Just for clarity, are they jacking me around because im a young guy with a honda or is most of this pretty legitimate. (if so i think a supercharger might be pretty fun on a DD)

 

$3500!? and $1700 to install!? that is outrageous.

 

I say they are jacking with you. You can probably get an used Jackson supercharger for 1,000. Just do some morereading around and you can probably installed it yourself.

 

You can tell imediately that they are either trying to get as much of your money as they possibly can or they are just stupid. Greddy kits are just about as easy as it getsto install as far asa turbo kit is concerned. Andlike gsumano saidjackson racing makes great superchargers that can be had for around $1200 that are probably even easier to install than a greddy kit. I would shy away from speed shops, theydont want to help you out they only wont your money. Do some research on here and you will know exactly what you need to do.

 

Superchargers are by far eassier to install than a turbo kit.

 

Not to mention a BRAND SPANKING new JR supercharger will run you around $1700-$2000 and shouldnt take more than $600 to instal. Or you can do it for free by doing it yourself with the very detailed instructions that come with it.

 

ive helped to install a JR S/C on a sohc before it didnt take more than 6 hours for 3 ppl to do so its not that hard your pretty much swapping the intake manifold and putting an FMU, a longer belt, and a different idler pully. thats about it i think. maybe a set of injectors and a way to control them if you have the finances also its not that hard to do really.

 

haha thats unreal. Yea, you can find a used JR supercharger on ebay usually once a month for about 1000 bucks, or buy a new one for 1800 dollars. The install is total cake. Stay away from those frauds, and get a turbo kit anyway!!

there is a link to all the superchargers. 3500 bucks is unreal, these are a lot cheaper than that.

 

A Procharger system is a centrifugal type supercharger, it is NOT like the JRSC which is a roots blower. Prochargers are some of the best superchargers on the market, and yes they do cost 3500. A buddy of mine has one on his B16, made around 535whp, needless to say the car was a beast. They're worth the money, but most people don't run them due to the price.
