Okay so I am not to sure where this question shoule be posted.

I have been throwing around the idea of swapping a motor in my civic. So now I have a question about how much boost could I run on a stock B18B and still have a extreamly reliable daily driver. And also what kind of fuel economy would a tubo'd B18B get? And one more question any idea of what I might be looking at for costs on this setup?

alright well i dont know much about b18bs at all, i am just familiar with d and b16s. but i can tell you that the b18bs are good for boost if built right. if you add a turbo your car is going to be less reliable no matter how much you build the block. it is all about the tune, i would set about 500-700 bucks for the tune alone. 2200 for the setup, 1000 to have it installed by the shop and then another 1500+ for piecing your own turbo kit together. there are some rough numbers right there. also about gas mileage, it all depends on how much you hit boost in the town or on the highway. its hard to tell how much gas mileage you can get with a turbo because i dont know how much your going to hit boost and all that jazz.

a well tuned b18b will hold around 300whp then the piston rings will give in

So I am wondering what do some people get for mileage once boosted? Better or worst? Also it sounds like 300hp is about the stopping point which is okay because I just wanted to get to 225-250 area just enough to have a decently quick daily driver. nothing to extreme.

man, boosting an 18b can be kinda pricey if you want 300 hp.

hope you saved some money up.

you don't actually need a lot of horsepower for your civic to be quick depending on what year you have.

if you have an EG hatch, 180-200 horsepower should be quick enough for such a light car if you're going to use it as a daily driver.

if you do have an EG. look for a b18c1 (GSR motor) and put some hotter cams in it. you should be somewhere near 180 naturally aspirated horsepower.

Man you could apply Pete's turbo list with a different manifold and be golden for 300 on a good tune with the b18b's, the b18b's are over shadowed alot by the b16, b18c1, b18c5, and jdm b18c because of fanboys of "mad tyte vtak...yo" but in boosted form it is a boss. Makes better tq than the vtec counterparts, is easier to tune, parts are cheaper and is a all around good designed engine.
