Are there such thing as legit inexpensive turbos?
My question is mainly in the title, but im looking to find a reliable a/c and power steering compatible turbo for at most $1000. are any of the ebay kits reliable/legit enough to use? Like the JDM turbos?
For example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDMS-...item1c0be9b180 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT Or is anybody selling a quality kit around that price? I drive a 96 civic ex; D16y8 Thanks |
Lol the JDM Turbos you say? Try craigslist/honda-tech/etc. tons of parts everywhere for civics, dont buy an ebay kit its garbage.
We have a sticky on it I believe...... |
the brand name kits on ebay are legit. the no-name or lame-name kits are not.
|
then could i buy a kit off of ebay and then substitue the turbo itself without having to replave the bov or wastegate etc..?
|
cheap wastegates are still dangerous, more likely to cause boost creep or boost spikes. cheap BOV's are more likely to have boost leaks
|
so basically, just replacing the bov, wastegate, intercooler, and turbo would give me a pretty reliable build?
|
no-name intercoolers are typically alright, but yea you should replace all the other stuff. And if the manifold isn't cast-iron, you should replace that too.
But tell me this: If you replace the BOV, wastegate, turbo, and possibly the manifold, which are arguably the most expensive things in the kit, what is the point of buying the kit to begin with? Just part one together or buy a better kit |
i had the same idea in my mind at first.. i decided to piece together a legit one.. so far its looking like its gonna cost me 800 to have a running turbo with named parts..
|
800 with named parts? unlikely
What brands are these so-called named parts? |
uh so far a greddy intercooler and garret turbo, header, hks bov for 400... hopefully all the other parts will stay in the 400-600 area... thats if the kid im buying it off of goes for the deal...
