Default threw a rod!

I just boosted my civic d16 and was running 6psi @ 187hp. I was driving and hit 3rd gear then a rod went through the block.. what could have caused this to happen?

did you just turbo it without looking at any of the internals?

yea, i did not look at the internals the engine only had 96k on it. it also was spraying anti freeze all over through the over fill resevoir...the shop said it was from running low oil and over a period of time it ruined the bearings cauzing the rod to be distroyed.

Anti freeze coming out the overflow? Sounds like stretched head studs from the boost and also a blown headgasket. Did you have a wideband air/fuel gauge to tell how it was running?

no i did not have that gauge. but i think that just from over time having run low oil and the head gasket going bad that when added boost made this happen quicker. do you guys think a bad tune could of made this happen?

sounds like a bad tune.

low oil sounds like a possibility, but i really don't know. if that was the case i'd think you would have noticed the rod knock before you threw the rod through the front of the block.

you put more oil in than usual right? when you're turbo'd you need a little more oil because of the turbo/oil lines.

yea i think that it was a bad tune as well but everything could have played a factor in that as well. i did have more oil but it wasnt turbo'd for even a whole day when this all happend.

are you saying you had a blown head gasket before or after you put the turbo on?
