Are you doing the work yourself? You could save a good amount of money if you took the motor out and dissassembeled the motor. Then you could send the block the a tuner shop to have the pistons, rods, crank?, and sleeves installed. Then put the motor back together and you saved a good amount in labor. That is what i plan to do when i get the money to buy a GSR motor.

RE: Turbo b18 engine Build help

you should be fine with stock sleeves on 400hp. you should just shoot for rods and pistons if you dont plan on going over that.

for rods look into cunningham, crower, JUN, and carrillo

pistons you should look for crower and JUN.

for head work, get a b16 head and get a CTR intake cam and an ITR exhaust cam.

Cunningham titanium are like $300 per rod, those things are crazy expensive. You could get a set of 4 forged rods for $400 i believe.

RE: Turbo b18 engine Build help

carrillos are 4340 billet steel, as strong as cunningham titanium rods, dont have the sticking tendancy of titanium, and cost about 600 for a set.

ps i wasnt nessecarily talking about cunninghams Ti rods.

How hard is it to pull the b18 motor apart... ive done my vr 4 motor and told myself if we could do that we could do anything... it looks very very easy but anyone have any input that has actually done it... anyone know where i can get the torque messurments from or a nice shop manual for the b18 motor....

RE: Turbo b18 engine Build help

to give you an idea it takes less than half an hour to pull the head on a B. ive never actually pulled a B, but i pulled my friends integra head so he could replace the gasket.

I3unny, the CTR intake/ITR exhaust cams are only good for an NA build. The valve overlap will kill your boost.

Nail I3unny 02-03-2006 05:06 PM

RE: Turbo b18 engine Build help

oh i was under the impression that CTR intake/ITR exhaust was good for boost? guess not.

RE: Turbo b18 engine Build help

If you have the valve overlap and you're under boost, a good portion of your boost pressure just goes straight out the exhaust.

RE: Turbo b18 engine Build help

yeah i know the reasoning behind overlap and why it will kill the power on a boosted car. i was just under the impression that there was little to no overlap with CTR/ITR cams.

what would be a better idea for boost apps?

The GSR intake cam and ITR exhaust cam is a pretty sweet turbo setup.

Well for one thing the B18A head is not a GSR head, it is a obd1 91-94 Integra LS head. As far as cams go I am all about trying to use as many oem parts as you can but I would not try to go this route. The single gsr cam you can probly get but the ITR exhaust cam will come at a price and that's if you can find it by itself. I honestly think you will get off alot cheaper by picking up a set of Crower cams. As far as your build your stock sleeves will be fine. Eagle rods and a set of Weisco forged pistons, a skunk2 intake manifold and you should be set to make some good numbers.

Back all this up with a good turbo like a gt28 or a t3 super 60, a lovefab turbo manifold, a JRC intercooler, and Hondata with a 2.5 inch exhaust and your ready.

How much psi or hp are the stock ls sleeves good up too?

RE: Turbo b18 engine Build help

on the B........depending on the tune.......you could run 275 WHP very safely........which will dip a civic into the 12s on slicks if im correct.

RE: Turbo b18 engine Build help

I have known of around 300 on a stock LS but that is pushing it a bit. The B18B's are IMHO the single best engine in the honda lineup to boost. The B18C1's are also good but the long stroke of the B18B makes it a prime engine for really good tq numbers.

RE: Turbo b18 engine Build help

Yeah, the sleeves can usually take 300 boosted whp, but the bottom end gets kinda sketchy... you'd need a pretty phenomenal tune to keep it going for too long.
