Turbo D17
wow... ok first backpressure has nothing to do with anything. its about fluid flow and scavenging velocity. bigger pipe means slower moving air so it sucks the exhaust out slower. greddy emanage BLOWS for the d17. pcs xfc and aem f/ic are much much better piggy backs. if you have the money get a standalone though, its well worth it. arp head studs are a great investment, but wait until you blow the stock HG. replace it with another stock HG and torque the ARP's to 80 ft*lbs and you'll never have another problem unless you start detonating. the y8 manifold is NOT a direct bolt up. i'm working on making it fit right now and its not as easy as one might think. i fabbed up an adapter plate to keep the d17 throttle body and i'm keeping the d17 fuel rail. but it is a much bigger headache than i originally thought it would be. i have an 01 lx, so no egr, so that is much simpler for me, but it gets exponentially more complicated if you have egr. yes you need new injectors. i'm tired and done writing now, go research there is a ton of info out there on turboing the d17, tons of people have done it.
no matter how much money I have i know for a face I will never use a stand alone ECU. I'm really hoping that no detonation will occur as long as i have a pretty solid Intercooler and a good dyno tune. I also doubt with the low amount of boost that it is necessary to swap to the Y8 intake manifold.

reading owns you on this one. i said aem f/ic is a much better piggy that emanage.
and that thread is all about how backpressure doesn't mean crap and scavenging velocity is what is important, balancing exhaust capacity and maximum velocity is the key. and the engineer owns you on that point.
to the op.. yeah you wont need a y8 mani with low levels of boost. they are good reliably up to 14 ish psi. 22 lbs have been pushed through the thing successfully but i dont how long that was done... so it may be possible but i dont know about reliability.
i've been reading up on the AEM F/IC and it looks pretty sweet, i could not really get a good look at the wiring, does it plug directly in or like the gReddy need the wires spliced ? I mean for my moderate goal of 200hp i am looking to acheive i think the manifold should be up to par at that approx. 8lbs of boost.

but you're honestly trying to tell me an N/A d series with 3.5" piping will drive the same as one with 2.25"?
and i've heard good thigns about the AEM F/IC for sure. THey probably have a harness for your car

dezod makes a plug n play harness for the f/ic its 125 i wanna say, but i have seen quite a few for sale on various forums lately. its pretty nice. i'm using it right now and have had zero problems out of it. i've heard equally as good of reviews out of pcs xfc.
and no flip thats not what i'm saying, you were completely right about the sizing part, just that backpressure has nothing to do with it. basically with a bigger pipe and the same amount of air, the air will move more slowly. with the space between the pulses from the cylinders and the air moving more slowly, the exhaust from the next pulses won't get sucked out of the head as well... obviously bad. so 3" pipe = slow exhaust = bad. 2.25" pipe = more exhaust flow but fast exhaust = good. on N/A cars anyway.

I must ask why, yes they work but not near as well standalones i would only use them if i had to for emissions reasons or if a standalone is not available.

now the main problem is that i cannot find a turbo manifold at all, if you guys could find one that would allow me to keep my AC and Power Steering that would be best and only way i would buy one. One of my buddies does CNC machining he can use the gasket to make me the mounting flange....then maybe have somebody fab up a manifold that keeps the turbo drain above the oil pan a considerable amount.
