Turbo on Road Trip
So is it safe and reliable to run boost and drive the car on a long distant road trip? I dont want anything to melt, overheat, catch on fire or breakdown.

RE: Turbo on Road Trip
shouldnt, i know that when im cruising down the highway at 75mph im ready 1psi of boost on my t3 and my gas gauge goes way up because the motor wont have to work as hard to get the power, it makes the turbo add its little kick in. Now yes if you are like shifting like a bat out of hell running down the highway for long distances at 5k then yes you are probably gonna start to tear some stuff up.
No problem with a turbo on long trips, just watch your engine temp gauge and it should be all good:D |
RE: Turbo on Road Trip
so when you go on long trips just put the boost at 1 psi and you will be fine?

RE: Turbo on Road Trip
You wont understand it until uve boosted a motor. When you are crusing at highway speeds you wont be boosting. I drive to south jersey frequently, and Ill drive for 1.5 hrs at 75 mph and my boost/vac gauge will be reading 10 inches of vac.....no boost....but when u touch the throttle the boost is right there.....so when ur crusing u shouldnt really even be in boost.

RE: Turbo on Road Trip
You gotta remember though, yours is an auto. On a 5 speed, you're going to be spinning a bit more RPM's, so more prone to boost.

RE: Turbo on Road Trip
it also depends on how much your foot is into the throttle to, but that is also a good point pete, forgot to mention that

RE: Turbo on Road Trip
but on the highway your gas mileage will go UP because of the forced air going into the cylinders which is greater than the enge was stock

ORIGINAL: fast93civic You gotta remember though, yours is an auto. On a 5 speed, you're going to be spinning a bit more RPM's, so more prone to boost. ACtually, it should be less. Consider that a 5 speed has an "extra" gear than an auto......so while crusing at higer speeds 5 speeds can shift into fifth........which should result in lower RPMS, and higher inches of vac. |
RE: Turbo on Road Trip
Cruising = 0 or negative boost.

Yea........anyone who drives a boosted whip knows this.
