Default turbo save gas?

for awhile now, ive always thought that a turbo would sap your gas away like water being poured out a bucket. but then ive also heard that depending on how its tuned, a turbo could actually hook you up with better mpgs than when it came out of the dealer...

so whats up? thoughts and answers people?

Well.. it also depends on how you drive, if your not "on the boost" the engine is essentially "De-Tuned" so your not developing as much power as you are with a stock engine (Providing you actually "Built" the engine for a turbo)

Nice little comparison. It all depends on how the engine's tuned and how much you get on it. This micro machine mini-van I had in Ireland was turbo and at first I was pumped thinking it was something special until I drove it. It was ridiculously efficient, but didn't have a whole lot of pep. It had enough, but it was comprable to my 88 Civ standard.
