Want to change my setup. Need some opinions
Hey guys been awhile since I last posted but I'm back. I just graduated college, got a job making some nice chedder so I'm looking for more power. Here's my current set-up:
1995 EX coupe
B16A, stock bottom end
full drag turbo kit (log mani, 440 rc, 250 walboro etc)
to4e/t3 A/R .60
Type R cams
AEM cam gears
6 psi tuned w/ crome 219whp/169wtq
It was fun for awhile but I need more power especially torque. so what i want to do is get b20 bottom end (stock), up the boost to 8 psi, new tune w/ cromeand get a full 3 inchexhaust (no cat).
So what do guys think? This car is my daily I want to get around 250 whp but more importantly at least200 wtq. Is this idea going to be worth the money or there another way to reach my goals. I am open to opinions so please give me some feedback.
Thanks fellas!

3" exhaust wont do anything unless you got over 400whp, and you would only notice the difference for a short burst in the power curve. with no cat you have the best setup for minimal backpressure already.
One big thing you should do if you want 250whp is upgrade the rods and pistons. With that done along with a good tune and more psi should be no problem.

Oh I was thinking D engines, been talking about them a lot lately.... I recommend doing a compression test atleast, cause I would also do a leakdown test. Not that expensive, just buy from autozone then after you use it return it for free. With a b16 the rods will be fine for that amount of hp.
I like the idea. I have a turbo b16 as well and often long for more torque. The b20 is somewhat of a weak bottom end but if your only looking for 250whp you should be alright.
However for the money/trouble of a b20 block and the ls/vtec conversion I would opt for a built bottom end in your current b16. I built mine and could probably make 15psi/320whp all day which would give me way over 200wtq and is probably much safer than making 250whp/200wtq on on b20.
Also, you will get bored at every power level you reach and it will be nice to know you can keep upping the boost with a built block every time you start getting bored with it. And your turbo is already good for 400+whp. (Excuse the multiple posts it seems I can only write about 2 sentances per post[:@])
I agree with red2000si dont waste the time on the b20 conversion stock they are weaker than your b16 and tend to break over 200whp. the b16a stock can withstand 250-300whp but I would at least change the pistons and headstuds. Just build the b16a a little put on a strong clutch up the boost with a good tune and you could easily have 300+whp and more than 200 wtq. Soon I will have a similiar set up so tell me how it goes if you go that route.
thanks for the input fellas, Idid think about building the B16 but after crunching some numbers the B20 swap is the cheaper route to obtain my power goals. I can get the block/other partsfairly cheap and my buddy and I will do all the labor. if I build the B16 then I have to buy the parts plus labor to install them because I know nothing about tearing down an engine and rebuilding it.
anybody on here know anyone with a boosted B20vtec setup? if so what kindofsetup and what numbers are they putting down.

alright, so after doing a ton of research I decided not to go the B20 route. that motor has very thin sleeves that tend to fail when boosted. there are cars out there running boost on this motor but not that many. the majority of people that go this route end up smoking their motor and I don't want to risk it.
So the new plan is to simply up the boost on my current setup to 10 psi, retune and full 3in exhaust eliminating the cat. I have another vehicle to fall back on if she blows so I am not to worried. Also going this route will not cost too much money so I can put the money I save into my K series saving fund
I plan on doing this at the end of july early august so look for a thread with the dyno results and a video.

In my opinion K series are the biggest waste of money in the world. For substantially less money you could build your b16 bottom end and smoke the **** out of anything you could do with a K series. i would just up the boost on the motor as it is and then just rebuilding it once it blows. Thats what I did with my motor and now its capable of 400whp.
