Default What can I do??? 7th gen...

I have an 04 EX auto...got it before I knew anything about tuning...I drive a lot, so I got the auto. Now I'm wondering if I will ever be able to do much with this eco box.

How long before someone manu's a supercharger? I figure there is an average tech lag for each gen., but how long am I gonna have to wait? I've heard turbo's for my car are touch and go and require serious tuning & injection help...I drive this car every day and don't want to f*** with the reliability factor. I realize the tourque may bother the tranny if I go either way...Damn...what can I do?!?!?!!?

Help!!!!

1. As of right now there are no plans from anyone, JR in particular, to make a supercharger for the 7th gens. The tech lag, this was a big hit bc of the OBDII standard, this really threw aftermarket manufacturers off.
2. There is always the option of a N2O wet kit, a 75 shot won't cause that much damage.
3. As for turbo chargers, 2 companies make kits for us, and yes they will require tuning, fuel management, and with the fact that we have a returnless fuel system that doesn't help.
4. The tranny can handle more than you think.
5. I am currently working on fitting a Skunk2 D16 intake manifold, throttle body, changing to return style fuel system, adding a FPR, and a N2O dry kit. It is looking promising, I am 99% sure that the IM will fit, unfortunately it is a LOT of custom work; including replacing the fuel lines with custom ones, when I am done I'm going to do a DIY on it and you can judge for yourself.

Oh forgot to mention, Crower makes cams, rods, Importperformanceparts.com sells Wiseco pistons which claim to raise compression to ~11:1, KMS makes valvetrain upgrade.

I am personally going the N/A route with some help from N2O. A turbocharger wouldn't be a bad idea for you, run low boost, 6 or 7 psi, will cause very minimal iritation to engine parts. You could also go with some pulleys, the claims that the crank pulley has a harmonic dampener are incorrect so don't believe what you read, I have done extensive search and called Unothodox Racing and a few honda techs from local shops.

personally with a D17 i think id rather go the turbo route. ive heard theyre a bitch to pull and reinstall. maybe not...thats just what ive heard. but itd be sweet to build a NA D and have it running sub teens.

edit: oh **** i didtn get to make a 4000 post topic!!. dammit. oh well. at least my 4000th post was good for something other than 'nyah nyah 4k'

If I can make a 13 second or less D17 I will be estatic, to be honest I'm really only looking for over 200 whp with the N2O.

What I'm gathering here is I probably aught to buy a different civic when my lease is up instead of buying this one. Something used and cheap so I can put money into mods. Which 6th gen is the best starting base? I would like to stay as new as possible so it needs to be a 6th gen. I have a 40 min freeway commute one way. so I don't really want a high mileage engine if poss.

I'm pretty sure I would like to sc over turbo because of the rarity of the mod around here and the lower rpm torque. This is DEtroit area, and muscle is what I see every day....I'd like to stomp on the gas & watch people's faces!

Lemme know what you think.

have fun keeping up with detroit muscle in a SCed civic. really. if you want to smoke that you're gunna have to use a turbo and a lot of tuning. those things are no joke. they were built for speed. your car was built for economy. you need to put a LOT of time into your car to hold.

dont get me wrong. a SCed car could keep up if the person who installed it and tuned it knew what they were doing, its just a lot easier to do it with a turbocharger.

as for models, if you just want straight line speed (for drag racing) then an EK or EG coupe is your best bet. they take the shock of quick launches better than the other trims.

for suff like autoX you probably want a hatch, EK or EG will work but EGs look better IMO. theyre lighter than coups and you wont have to worry about launches and stuff.

itd be really sweet if you could go to a junkyard and find 1) an EK coupe chassis with a blown out engine and 2) a rear-ended GSR.

edit: oh yeah...keep away from top end models if all you want is speed. their features only add weight.

Obviously, if I was trying to keep up with and destroy detroit muscle, a civic is probably not where I would start. I'm simply infering that releasing some hp out of an econo-box around here will turn some heads and get props. Most of the people around here love cars in general, but have no respect for imports...unless they are of the v-6 & up vareity. I don't want to be like everybody else, and running nitrous is not an option, this is my daily driver for crying out loud! Sure it'd be sweet to go n/a but im not a mechanic, nor a sadist!

I like the style of my civic & the trim level, thank you, I'm not a weekend warrior or anything...at least not yet. If I was really serious, I'd do a swap with a K20A, type R integra tranny, switch out the power steering pump for cornering at speed, mod the susp. and the exhaust, chip it, and if I was really serious when that was all done, commit sacrelige and boost it!!!! But cmon...lets be realistic, wh0o has 8-10 grand layin around and time to wait for the sh*t to get here from the land of the rising sun?!

Time vs. money...I just wanna have some fun and be proud of what I'm whippin, ya know?
