Why would my radiator blow at idle?
I thought the pre-mixed stuff was only 50/50. And you can buy a gallon of distilled water at the store for like $1.00 and you won't need more than that. I should have been more clear on what water to mix the coolant with. +1 on not using tap water.
I definitely know that both 50:50 and 70:30 premixed coolant are commercially available. There may be other premixed concentrations available as well. As you say, it's also possible to purchase distilled water and prepare your favorite coolant concentrations at home. Nonetheless, there are several reasons that I don't recommend this procedure to most people. Mixing coolant at home requires not only a separate purchase of distilled water, which incidentally increases the expense, it also requires one to have an accurate mixing vessel. In addition, the mixing procedure is subject to user error (simple math is not simple for everyone). In summary, I recommend that people just purchase premixed coolant in order to reduce both hassle and expense.
Ron, I disagree with buying premixed. It's overpriced and you have no idea if it's truly the mix that it's stated at. If I lived in a colder(warmer) climate I would definitely worry about it being the correct mix. Same goes for windshield washer fluid.
Gene, I have an enormous respect for your opinion (even when you are sarcastic), but I think we need to agree to disagree on this point.
Oh sure.
