Engine Envy - Hyundai/Kia 2.0L Turbo 274 HP, 34 MPG
I've been reading about this new engine from Hyundai that's going in the new Sonata and now also the new Kia Optima.
It's a turbo charged 2.0 liter inline four cylinder with 274 hp, 269 torque and 34 mpg highway. I like those numbers. Makes me want to consider a 2-3 year old used Sonata or Optima 2.0T in a few years. I think the '11 Optima looks better though. What do you guys think? http://www.caranddriver.com/var/ezfl...cd_gallery.jpg http://www.automild.com/wp-content/u...am-588x441.jpg |
Hyundai is certainly getting it's act together. As far as commuter/family cars go, there won't be many (if any) better options for the price within the next couple of years.
|
I will never own a Hyundai or Kia, and I don't care what they offer.

is that a plastic intake manifold? on a boosted car??? dodge cant even get them to work on their asthmatic pushrod (ghey) six cylinders. im not sure i would trust that, and would have to do some research on the other bits as well. the numbers are quite impressive tho...

Subaru has been doing the plastic intake mani for years, not a big deal really. It's supposed to dissipate heat pretty well.

It appears to me that the mani u posted would have a better load bearing capability. Plus, its a subaru, not a kia. Im sure that a throttle body and sensors is a pretty insignificant amount of weight, but coupled with heat and pressure, it seems like a weak link.

they're definitely going in the right direction. I mean this may not be perfect when it comes out, but it's much better than the tiburon. I drive a santa fe in the winter, and for the price you really can't beat it... it's not even that bad on gas.
idk i'm excited to see this just because it's better than the tiburon. |

Unlike the Sonata, the new Optima is going to have optional heated AND cooled seats. I've been dreaming about cooled seats for years and years. I can't count how many times I've driven with my back off the seat in the brutal heat of South Florida. I'm not crazy about those wheels, but the body looks great. http://www.carsuk.net/wp-content/gal...ima-2011-1.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AHt1sHVtR-...a-Optima-3.jpg |
It... looks sorta like a Civic
|
Saab 9-5's had cooled seats for quite...forever. Why not buy one of the Aero models in a 5-speed? Turbo 2.3L, a pretty good independent suspension, a lot more space...
