From what I read about it, the road was slightly wet/damp and the construction zone came up fast.

I've seen this before and three factors contributed to the pile up. 1) The construction zone. 2) The rain. 3) The downhill incline.

i've done the pitching your car sideways to avoid an accident at 70mph thing before, its not much fun.
