The mustang was 1000hp also
And also, the mustang would've been fine at those speeds; they're built fairly well, the only problem is getting one to those speeds. Mustangs become aerodynamic bricks at around 120mph. Hell, most stock mustangs can hit 140 without a problem given enough space (obviously you need to remove the governer)

did you know that the veyron's suspension can lower itself at the turn of a key for high speeds. And for everyone that keeps saying the veyron is an ugly sob, really? it's designed for a reason, their engineers knew what they were doing..they build from the bottom up, not the roofline down.
there's plenty of nice looking fast cars, veyron isn't one of them, but I'm sure the guys that designed it thought it was good looking.
and for those claiming to be so smart making a supercar, why does it weigh 2 tons?

why is it one of the worlds fastest production cars? Did you know it's a luxury supercar? bugatti strives for ingenuity and efficiency, not really so much for bragging rights on who's looks the best which is opinion based. I'm not really trying to defend it, but people just don't look at what goes into these things. most people just look over it, kinda like judging a book by it's cover. idk, maybe my engineering background doesn't help with styling
I don't see how the veyron is efficient, in any aspect. And my opinion is, any "luxury" supercar should be decent looking.
ugly+overpriced=I don't like. I would like to drive one once to see what it's like, but it's something I would never want to own.
