Default Motor Mount (Upper Left) Replacement

Thanks to trustdestruction for this DIY:

This DIY was done on a 93 Civic del Sol Si, which has the same engine bay as a 92-95 Civic. The DIY can be followed on all 92-00 Civics and possibly more.

If your motor mount is leaking hydraulic fluid and/or is cracked or deteriorating, it should be replaced.

Procedure

1. If you have cruise control, remove the actuator box under the hood.

There are 3 10mm bolts (circled in yellow below). On the electrical connector there are two clips; one holds the two plugs together, and one holds the plugs to the bracket. First remove the plugs from the bracket, then unplug them from each other. Move the actuator box up and out of the way. On a 96-00 Civic the actuator is shaped differently and may have different mounting bolt locations; I am not sure.

(this picture is not of the car the actual procedure was done on, but is a 92-95 Civic)

2. If you have power steering, you need to move the power steering fluid reservoir out of the way.

It is held in place on the back by a bracket and comes off of the bracket by sliding up. You can then pivot the bottom hose on its fitting at the bottom of the reservoir to make the power steering fluid reservoir out of the way. Keep a rag handy and try to keep the reservoir cap on... I have never had a problem with it leaking while sideways, you just have to be careful.

3. Now you have access to your motor mount bolts.

At this point a manual would recommend that you put a jack under the oil pan and put a piece of wood in between and then use the jack to support the engine... since we are only removing one motor mount and for a very short amount of time it’s not really necessary.

There are two nuts near the upper timing belt cover and there is a bolt on the side, all 17mm. You'll need a deep socket for the nuts and you may need a breaker bar or air tools to break loose the nuts and bolt. Remove the bolts and then remove the motor mount.

Old mount removed:

As you can see, my old mount has some cracking. It was also leaking hydraulic fluid.

Here is the new mount:

4. Installation is reverse of removal.

Tip: while bolting in the motor mount it is easiest to first get the nuts started on their studs just a little bit, then align the center of the mount so that the bolt can go through and start to thread it in a little bit. Once the bolt is through then tighten the nuts and then the bolt.

Don't forget to put the power steering reservoir and cruise control actuator back into position.

All done!
