Holy freaking crap. $40,000!! Jeez we really have come a long way. And I seriously thought that was an empty engine block when I saw the thumbnail before I read the post.

I showed my dad that pic and he started to tell me that back in 85 he was working for circuit city and they took him to their main facility with a huge room full of 'new' servers and hard drives (like tape reel style) that they spent millions on. It even had its own climate control. It wouldnt suprise me if the room now has
this little black box that sits in the corner that looks like this:

The first one I touched was an IBM with its first mouse. It had a paint program that was insane for its time.

$40,000 is alot. but my question is, why does the 6gb one behind it supposedly cost $400 in 2006? you can get a 30gb ipod for around $300. it no makey sense

With HDDs up to 500GB for less than $400 that are roughly the size of your hand, it's hard to believe that we came from ^ that.

I think that the 500s are two 250s that they stuck together. I'm not completely sure, but i remember reading something like that, or maybe i heard it from one of my computer geek friends.

I know theres a 2 terabyte external hard drive out there that is 4 500gig drives combined. God knows why you would need that much space.

The 6gb is that expensive because its the size of your thumbnail. Hell, a one gig flash is still like $100-$150
