Test drove a 2000 Si yesterday
Ok this car is a 2000 Si, Black on grey, 100k miles, 2 owners, no accidents and simply beautiful. I thought maybe if wheel and deal with them maybe I can pick this car up
Well I test drove that car and Im talking to the salesman about trading my 97 ex in for the Si. The si is priced at $7,991 and they only want to give me 1800 for my car, I was thinking something like 2500-3000 since I bought it last year for 4000. My car is not perfect but since I have owned it I have cleaned it religiously, bought new tires, new alignment done, and had a mild tuneup done on it. Anyway they look my car over and without asking me they took my car for a test drive, aren't they supposed to ask you before they just drive your car off? Ok now they want me to put down 800 or 1600 down on this car and pay anywhere between 240-280 per month on this car. When I bought my 300zx TT I took 7500 car loan out on it with a 10% apr and I only payed 180 per month. Since then I have payed off that loan and im paying off a personal loan of 3000 right now. They said they will write me a check for my car to pay off the majority of my personal load but im still not seeing why a 8000 car loan is going to cost me 60-100 more per month than my last car payment. Im going to talk to the guy again today but at this moment im not to interested in this car anymore if they are going to try to screw me over since im moving into a apartment this wednesday. You guys and gals have any suggestions on what I should do? This is being off-topic but is it a b16a2 that is in the US si?

idk about this man if they only want to give you $1,800 for your car i would have walked out. and yes they are supposed to ask you first before they drive your car. i would say your car on kelly blue book would be worth over $3,000 just becareful and take your time deciding what you are going to do good luck
Ditto on Peg-Leg's statement... the fact is... you don't NEED that car... if you're going to a dealership, the extra $$ is probably taxes, title, and license. Before I got my Civic, I was looking at a 01 GrandAm at a dealership. They had it on sale for $4995. (which should be right around $100 +/- for the payment) When they were done adding all the taxes and crap, the car was over $6k and payment was $150. I walked out. Found my Civic a few days later... paid $4500 for it... payment is $89/mo. It could also be due to your credit rating... and interest rates. I bought an $8600 truck in '03 and it was $205/mo. That was on a 4.5% interest rate, though... now I've got 7.24% which boosts payment up... could be due to the term, also... if it's a '00 most dealerships will only go 60 months... my truck was for 48 months. Dealerships mark up their cars a TON... Personally, I would secure a loan from a credit union, and find a good privately owned ride.... no taxes... you just have to pay for your license out of pocket.
BUT... (at least in AZ) you get 3 months to do that... you get a $15 temp plate for 90 days.

Thanks Peg-Leg. Well they dont like all the aftermarket parts on it but I cant do anything about it since the only thing I have done to that car since I have bought it was put on taillights and I still have the stock ones at my house. Plus that ugly front bumper that is on there now has caused two small rust spots on the front fenders. I was planning on putting a stock front bumper back on it next year but I would rather get rid of the 97 and have the personal loan completely paided off and start new with Si that only has a intake on it. I still owe 2300 on the personal loan.

they'd probably give you more if you had your stock front bumper on

i know what you mean it would be nice to have that 2000 si but you almost have your 97 payed off and since the dealer doesn't want to give you what you want out of it. and i just checked kelly blue book on that 2000 si it retails for $10,990 and the dealer wants $7,991 for it tells me there might be something wrong with it. last month i almost traded my 06 accord for a 07 si but they wanted $9,500 and my accord and thats the lowest i got them i just smiled and said i'm not giving you my accord and walked out. you might have better luck selling your civic out right and taking the money and buy another si. by the way how many miles is on your civic ?
Well there is 131k on it now but I completely trust my car. My civic is completely in my name, I took out a personal loan to buy it so I wouldnt have to put full coverage on it even though it has full coverage now. Like I said im going to talk to them again today and tell them I want 2500 for my car and Ill pay 8000 for the si if everything is included with it plus I want a compression test done to the cylinders. Renegade reminded me that dealerships charge more for all those taxes and crap.
The last thing you need is *another* loan. If your car is fine stick with it. Obviously, you dont have the scrap $150 laying around for a fully painted front bumper. I dont think it would be a good idea to just run out and buy an almost 7 year old car with a loan on top of your head.
